Assistance for Single Moms in New Mexico
Single moms in need can find state and charity assistance in cities and counties throughout New Mexico including in Albuquerque and Las Cruces.
Rental Assistance Program
Statewide Rental Assistance Program provides a onetime cash assistance grant to single moms. It helps them with paying utilities, with security deposits, housing costs, and/or to pay the first month rent. Low income tenants will have time to secure transitional or permanent housing because their families may also be eligible for up to six months of rent subsidies. Programs to Prevent Evictions and Help the Homeless
Federal government grants is available for low income families and single moms that need help with paying rent to prevent an eviction. The currently homeless are also offered assistance, including funds to pay for a security deposit or past due energy bills.
Vouchers for Rent
Low income single moms can receive section 8 housing vouchers from the New Mexico public housing authorities and HUD. Those who are disabled or have a unusual situations are being prioritized, in spite of the unusually long waiting list. Tenants still need to pay a portion of their income towards their rent, as required by the program.
Subsidized Housing and Emergency Rent
The less fortunate and single mothers facing a crisis can receive assistance from the partnership created between the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority and local non-profits and charities.
