As a program funded jointly by the state and the federal government, Medicaid pays for health services for single moms, children and their caretakers, pregnant women, and persons who are disabled, blind or 65 years of age or older.
Physician, hospital and long term care are the primary services funded through Medicaid. Drugs, medical equipment and transportation, family planning, laboratory tests, x-rays and other medical services are also included.
General Program Requirements
You must be a resident of the state of Illinois, a U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income in order to be able to qualify for this benefit program. Additionally you must be either a parent or relative caretaker if a dependent child(ren) under age 19, pregnant, blind, have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or be 65 years of age or older.
