You found a posting for the perfect job, and want to apply for it. Here are a few tips to help land the job.
Customize your resume so that you map your qualifications and experience to the job description / job requirements. Make sure that you use the keywords from the job posting in your resume!
It will definitely take more time to create a custom resume for a job you apply for; however, it is worth the time. For one, it takes you through the process of mapping your qualifications with the job requirements, and thus understanding whether you are qualified indeed.
Then, a targeted resume specifically highlights the experience relevant to the job you apply for. Overloading the resume with qualifications and skills irrelevant to the job, does not help.
In addition, using the requirements keywords in your resume makes your resume pop up in searches. Resumes are entered into databases and then searched by keywords by employers.
Once the qualifications are highlighted, make sure you add a Summary of Qualifications at the top of your resume.
Include the credentials, experience, and education that are required by the job opening in the Summary of Qualifications section at the top of your resume. List your experience in reverse chronological order.
Go over the resume several times to make sure it reads well, that there are no spelling mistakes, and that all sections are included.
Good luck!
