Health Care Coverage – Michigan

by Leave a Comment

Health CareHealth insurance program for uninsured children of Michigan’s working families. MIChild services are provided by many HMOs and other health care plans throughout Michigan.

In addition to receiving child support, it is important that your children receive health care coverage and medical support. The Office of Child Support, Prosecuting Attorney and Friend of the Court will help establish and enforce an order for health care coverage and medical support. If you need assistance providing health care coverage for your children, the following programs offered by the Department of Community Health may be available for little or no cost:

MIChild

  • Health and dental care for children age 18 and under
  • MIChild premiums are $10 per family per month
  • Administered by the Michigan Department of Community Health (DCH)

Healthy Kids

  • Health and dental care for pregnant women & children age 18 and under
  • No monthly premiums
  • Administered by the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS)

PLAN FIRST!

  • Family planning services for women age 19 to 44 who are not pregnant
  • No monthly premiums or co-payments
  • Administered by the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS)

MOMS

  • Prenatal services with a Guarantee of Payment Letter
  • No monthly premiums or co-payments
  • Administered by the Michigan Department of Community Health (DCH)

General Directions

  • List everyone in your home; even if you are not applying for that person. Your eligibility is determined by your income and your family size.
  • Do not submit more than one application per day, unless you are correcting a mistake you made in a previous application.
  • If you are pregnant go to an Agency such as a local health department to apply for MOMS and a Guarantee of Payment letter. If you apply from home, you may qualify for Healthy Kids, but you will not get MOMS.
