This Valentine’s Day should be a day you give to yourself. Whether you’re in a relationship or single, let this Valentine’s Day remind you of all the reasons you deserve to feel loved. Not just by other people but more importantly by yourself. You’re a mother and that makes you an amazing woman but it’s easy
to forget this. I could write about men and all the ways you can score a Valentines full of roses, romance and chocolates. It’s easy to forget to love ourselves. Our lives are so full of giving to others and racing against the clock to get everything done that we leave too little time for ourselves. So I’m making this Valentine’s Day about giving back to you. I’m making this day all about loving the most inspiring woman in your life…you. Take this day and remind yourself of all the reasons you deserve to feel loved every day by doing these 5 things.
Hug your children a little longer. There’s something about hugging our children that instantly brings joy and is physically calming. Your children are living proof that you are capable of miracles. No other one person or being in this universe could give life to your children. And I’m not just speaking to the mothers who are raising biological children. I’m talking to any woman who has taken a child under her wing. Life isn’t just given in the physical sense. Life is given through love and support and when you give a child this unconditionally, you give a miracle. So today, consciously hug your children a little longer and a little tighter and let it remind you of the miraculous gift of life that you have given them.
Today, you can do no wrong. Give yourself a break this Valentine’s Day. Let it be a day of “no mistakes”. You’re not perfect but that’s exactly what makes you perfect! If we were all perfect, this world would be a very boring place. It’s our imperfections that create balance, motivation and inspiration in life. It’s our mistakes that give us valuable knowledge that we can pass on to our children. And I know there are days you feel like you just can’t do anything right. From getting your kids to school late because you slept through your alarm to burning dinner to making a huge mistake at work, life can seem as though it’s beating you down and laughing with every blow it deals but this day, everything you do is perfect and right. If you do something that you feel is wrong today, take some deep breaths, let it go and laugh it off. You deserve a day of doing no wrong and this Valentine’s Day is that day because you know how imperfectly perfect you are and you love yourself.
Love everyone unconditionally. It’s much easier to focus on the things that people do that you feel is wrong and it’s much easier to be angry or hold a grudge than it is to be accepting. But it’s a proven fact that when you are able to let go of anger and disappointment your physical and psychological health benefits. When you don’t hold onto anger, you feel lighter, happier and more at peace. So today, let go of your anger and any grudges you have against people. You don’t need a reason and you don’t need to forgive but when you start to think about someone who has caused you grief, instead of thinking about all the things you can’t stand about them, think about the things you do like about them. It doesn’t even have to be a big thing or a lot of things. Just one positive thought is enough to create a ripple. This goes for every single person you run into today or think about that creates negativity in you. Let it go and replace it with positivity. This is practicing unconditional love and unconditional love is exactly what you deserve.
Feel beautiful today. What is it that makes you feel beautiful? And I’m not talking about what other people do that makes you feel beautiful. I want you to do at least one thing for yourself today that makes you feel beautiful. It can be anything from working out to spending a little extra time on your hair to spending the whole afternoon baking in your sexiest pj’s. Whatever makes you feel beautiful today is the day to make a conscious effort to do it. You are beautiful, inside and out and you are worthy of feeling beautiful without anyone reminding you. A woman like you can turn heads where ever she goes because she creates and believes in the beauty she emanates… all on her own.
Notice and appreciate the little things today. We’re so busy rushing around all day long that we overlook so many of the little things that make our lives good. But when you practice being grateful for even the little things that you’re used to taking for granted every day, your day just gets that much better. So start with your morning coffee and as you take your first sip, let the aroma completely take over your senses for just a few minutes and be grateful for the experience. Be grateful for the familiarity your home provides you as you walk around today knowing exactly where everything is. Be grateful for the fresh air as you walk outside and take your first breath of fresh air today. As you pass a mirror, smile at yourself and be grateful for your smile because it’s yours and it’s beautiful. Have fun with this. The point is to notice the little things that you are probably too busy to notice and to fill yourself with even more happiness. No matter who you are or what your situation is, there are things in your life that are good. You just have to see them. And you deserve every single one of them.
These are five ways to love you even more. You don’t need someone else to feel loved. It’s wonderful to be in a relationship or to have someone do something that makes you feel special on Valentine’s Day but when you take the time out to love yourself, it’s that much better.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
