Single2Mother.org - based in Seattle, WA. The day I stood watching my son’s father walk away, with his final words being "Have an abortion or do it on your own!". I was certain my life was over. That day marked the start of many changes, but little did I know with those painful words my destiny was born. As a single mom, I often found myself feeling lost and isolated. I attended playgroups, and parent support groups and never met another single mother. I became accustomed to the support of many various resources including friends and family, but still found nothing to address the issues of single mothering. Online, I searched for single mother resources in the Seattle area and found dating sites. But, that was not what I needed.

Our Families Our Future is a Wyoming non-profit organization that helps low-income single mothers on their path to economic self-sufficiency. Our CLIMB Wyoming programs train and place women in demand occupations and careers that earn livable wages. Almost 40% of single mothers in Wyoming are living at or below the Federal poverty level, but the staff and partners of Our Families Our Future are working to reverse this statistic by empowering single mothers to improve their lives and the lives of their children.

Our intervention model is based on the Fleming Associates Young Parent Program which was established in Laramie County in 1986 to meet the educational, work and life skills needs of low-income single parents. This is a nationally acclaimed paradigm for moving disadvantaged single mothers out of poverty.

Things that matter to Single Mom

Finding a Mom’s Support Group - By Amy Allen Clark - Becoming a mom was both an exciting and scary time for me.  I returned back to work full-time and, despite these great changes in my life, found that my work & friendships resumed back to what they were before I had my child. I still had people to talk to and was not really seeking anyone or anything else in my life. My life was busy and my days were full with working, caring for my child, and maintaining our home.

What is sexual assault? - Amanda Bach - Sexual assault can be verbal, visual, or anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact or attention. Examples of this are voyeurism (when someone watches private sexual acts), exhibitionism (when someone exposes him/herself in public), incest (sexual contact between family members), and sexual harassment. It can happen in different situations, by a stranger in an isolated place, on a date, or in the home by someone you know.

The Emotional Roller Coaster of Divorce - By Pauline H. Tesler, M.A., J.D., & Peggy Thompson, Ph.D. - Authors of Collaborative Divorce - Divorce is an emotional task unlike any other in modern society, and different people experience it in different ways. While some individuals go through nearly all of the extreme emotional states that we describe here, others have an easier time getting through this period and will maneuver these choppy waters with more skill. The important thing to remember is that all the emotions we discuss are normal, but while some are readily acknowledged by the people experiencing them, others are so uncomfortable that it's difficult even to admit they exist. The wide array of emotional states that many people experience during the early stages of the divorce process can diminish their capacity to think clearly, impair their judgment, and make rational decision making difficult or impossible.

Financial Guide Through a Divorce By Kelly Kennedy - Going through a divorce by all means is not easy.  Even coming to the realization that you want a divorce or your partner wants to separate, can all be overwhelming.  That’s just the beginning; divorces can get ugly when it comes to dividing all joint obligations.  However it needs to be done, so here are some pointers to help solve any problems that may arise.

Tips for Single Moms - Life After Divorce - monthly advice from our contributor Jennifer Snyder at www.TimeOfYourLifeAfterDivorce.com and www.SelfCareForWomen.net - Tips for a new mom to things that matter to all Single Mom as life after divorce.  Jennifer Snyder is a personal coach and workshop leader for divorced women who cannot wait to proclaim their own power. Angels We Have Heard and Seen - Contributed by Jennifer Snyder - My favorite part of the holiday season is its steady reminder of angels. Christmas cards reflect angelic gatherings in star-filled night skies. Ancient carols tell of angels spreading great joy, or watching over shepherds and sleeping children.

The Genius of Your Inner Wisdom - Contributed by Jennifer Snyder - Stop everything you’re doing for a moment…Erase all of those racing thoughts and fragmented to-do lists from your mind. Take a nice, deep breath... Feel your heart rate slowing down.  Now, whisper to yourself, “What do I most need in this moment?”

Baby Steps or Giant Leaps - By Jennifer Snyder - As summer days drew to a close this year, I found myself feeling not quite satisfied and at loose ends.

Back-to-School Lessons and Supplies for Mom - By Jennifer Snyder - Each year, by early August, discount stores across the country prominently display back- to-school supplies for children of all ages.

Rebuilding: Being Authentically “You” - By Jennifer Snyder -  I once read a fascinating, but all too realistic, story about a woman who opened her closet door and out tumbled various pieces of sporting equipment and memorabilia.

Choosing Family - By Jennifer Snyder - “Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” - Jane Howard Earlier this month I stumbled upon this quote by Jane Howard and it has stayed with me.

Rebuilding: Proclaim Your Power! - By Jennifer Snyder -  This is the mantra I’ve been exclaiming since I began coaching and facilitating workshops for separated and divorced women... Susan Cowsill can be heard singing, “Nothing can stop me now, and it never could anyhow…” on the website’s introduction.

How to Turn Your Life Around with Powerful Thoughts - By Jennifer Snyder - I hate to admit it now, but after my divorce, I spent more than one Sunday afternoon in bed playing “Uber-Damsel in Distress”.

10 Ways to Spring Forward - By Jennifer Snyder - The whole notion of setting my clock ahead an hour each spring usually leaves me feeling a little resentful. An hour lost; don’t they know what I might have accomplished with an extra sixty minutes of work, or a little more sleep?

Sexual Assault Awareness - Contributed by Amanda Bach - Sexual assault and abuse is any type of sexual activity that you do not agree to. Sexual assault can be verbal, visual, or anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact or attention. Here is the information and what can you do to get help or help someone that has been sexually assaulted.

Members of the TAASA staff are nationally recognized experts in the field and are asked to provide trainings at state, national, and international conferences.  www.taasa.org Sexual assault, or rape, is a violent crime, not a sexual act. The myth that men who rape women are sexually deprived or pathological has begun to be dispelled and replaced with the understanding that rape is an act of power and control, rather than lust.
