Finance for Single Mothers - Article What Really Counts
Stocks fall four points,
raise was only 2%, someone's two hours late, you're 30 pounds overweight,
the lottery's $3 million. Is life all a matter of numbers? Get the right
ones and life turns rosy? Get the wrong ones and…. Here I was, a real estate agent, getting beat up by the numbers. I
picked up the listing page and my hopes plummeted. Those two guys listed
ahead of me never missed a phone call. I was lowly #3 on the pecking
order. They'd sell the house in a minute, and make the commission. It was
the numbers problem again—my phone extension was third in line. Incoming
calls would go to the other two. Bills would go unpaid. Troubles multiply.
Pressure and more pressure. A little inner voice said, You've got a family to help support. Why wouldn't a loving Spirit help you do that? Yup, I thought. Why not? God is wonderfully good. Why shouldn't I get some of that good when I need it? Or even if I don't need it. And—I'm not kidding about this—a minute later the phone rang and the call came to me. I showed the house that very afternoon and sold it. So, it isn't a matter of numbers. It's a matter of outlook. So, it isn't a matter of numbers. It's a matter of outlook. Providence. Divine care. Orderly governance, not chance. It's seeing that the spiritual embraces and lifts up the earthly. In God's household everyone counts—no one is left out, overwhelmed, underpaid, falling short. I think that's why once I dethroned numbers and sales and embraced spiritual ideas—God's gentle grace embracing me and mine and everyone—my mental fog lifted and the phone rang. The sheep is the only totally helpless animal.I once read that the sheep is the only totally helpless animal. It has no camouflage, no speed, no venom, no sharp claws or teeth. It has to have a shepherd to provide, defend and care for it. And that's what God does for each of us. Every last one. Even the black sheep. God isn't one bit impressed by numbers, except to care so much for every one in the flock that He'll leave 99 to rescue the lost one. (See story below.) So, even just one is important. I'm doing a better job now of looking up to my Shepherd, not down at
charts and numbers. And, you know what? I feel unburdened! Life is good,
and getting better all the time. |
